Talk Abstract:
At the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine reached out to Elon Musk to ask him to help establish and activate the Starlink Satellite Internet service over Ukraine. Elon Musk promptly responded and provided Starlink equipment and services to Ukaine within 48 hours.
Satellite Internet is an internet service type that beams data from your internet provider to a satellite in space, and then finally to a dish at your home. This technology is especially helpful for users who live in rural or remote areas that don’t have wired internet services available.
At about 300 miles above the Earth, the next-generation satellites from Starlink (SpaceX) and Project Kuiper (Amazon) are launched into low-Earth orbit (LEO). Because of their closer proximity, next-generation satellites can provide customers with faster internet speeds and lower latency than previous satellite internet services.
In this webinar Dr. Kao will compare and contrast the two (GEO, LEO) services, focus on the newest LEO orbit Satellite Internet STARLINK features and capabilities , and also talk about the satellite-terrestrial communication integration (link with 5G) .
