AI Chips : An Overview (Dr. William Kao)
Talk Abstract:
Artificial Intelligence has brought a revolutionary change in every aspect of our life in this era of technology. Most of today’s artificial intelligence and machine learning applications are powered by neural networks — algorithms that are inspired by the way the brain works.
When we talk about AI chips, we are usually talking about chips that are designed to be able to run such algorithms faster and more efficiently than traditional processors.
In this seminar Dr, Kao will present an overview of AI chips: what are they, why are they needed, how they work, types of AI chips (GPUs, ASICs and FPGAs). He will talk about differences between CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, DPUs, and TPUs.
Finally Dr. Kao will cover the AI chip market and present major companies currently working on AI chips and their products (Nvidia, AMD, Google, IBM, Samsung) as well as new AI chip startups (Kneron, Cerebras, Samba Nova).
