10/17 Emerging Technology - Artificial Intelligence: Current Trends, New Applications
Time: Tuesday, Oct 17, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Venue: ITRI International - 2870 Zanker Rd., Suite #140, San Jose, CA 95134
AI has been largely conceptual for years. We are now into the “AI wave” of technology
(following in order web, social, and mobile) and this is a wave that seemingly benefits the largesttech companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM, Uber, Tesla which have large datasets and large user bases to deploy this technology with.
In this two hour presentation the speaker will give an overview of the field of AI, and cover the latest trends in machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning and many AI application areas.
But why AI now, after so many years?
It is not one thing, but a number of things happening simultaneously, that is causing this
explosion of interest.
1.Better algorithms. Research is constantly coming up with better ways to train models and machines.
2.Better GPUs. The same chips that make graphics come alive on your screen are used to train models, and these chips are improving rapidly.
3.More data. The Internet and humanity’s use of it has produced a massive data set to train machines with.
4.Cloud services. Companies are now offering cloud based services to developers which allow them to access artificial intelligence “as a service” .
The latest hot trends in AI are machine learning (self, no human programming needed), deep learning via neural networks, and a technique called reinforcement learning, a way for machines to learn specific tasks through extreme trial and error.
