Advances in information technologies and artificial intelligence are combining with advances in
the biological sciences—including genetics, neuroscience, synthetic biology—as well as
advances in the physical sciences to create breathtaking synergies, now recognized as the Fourth
Industrial Revolution. It is the fusion of digital, physical, and biological worlds.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution will profoundly affect our lives and reshape our economic,
social, cultural, and human environments.
It will bring new solutions to global challenges, and new employment opportunities for jobs that
have yet to be invented.
Yet the 4th IR could also lead to greater inequality, particularly in its potential to disrupt labor
markets.  It’s beyond doubt that education is at the heart of preparing present and future
generations to thrive.
