LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) is a surveying technology that measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser light. It is an essential technology for driverless car, robotic, and industrial 4.0.

Our speaker will introduce its principle and its applications.

You will see a Live Demo on 7/26.

John Eggert, Senior Sales & Marketing Manager, Velodyne LiDAR

John Eggert has more than 20 years of international experience in program management and sales and marketing management of products for the automotive industry, including automotive interiors and passive safety components and systems. His curiosity about the trends and technologies that will upend the automotive industry in coming decades led him to Velodyne LiDAR earlier in 2015.  As Velodyne’s Automotive Market Champion, John has had the unique opportunity to discuss and witness first-hand the perception strategies of almost every traditional and new automotive OEM in the quest to achieve high-level ADAS functions and autonomy.

Realizing the limitations of camera and radar alone, a significant number of automotive OEMs have recently begun to include high-definition 3D LiDAR in the sensing suites for their Level 3+ automated driving projects.  This is following in the footsteps of transportation-on-demand providers who, in their pursuit of Level 4 driving as a business necessity, understood the significance of LiDAR sensing much earlier.

We will provide an overview of the technology and how high-definition 3D LiDAR sensors were developed for the task of autonomous driving, but have found use in a variety of other markets.   Market examples of its use will be shared, including robotics, mapping and autonomous driving.  We will conclude with a look at what to expect from the next generation of high-definition LiDAR sensors.
